Preparing for Your Boudoir Shoot

Here are my tips to get the most out of your boudoir experience and how to prepare for your session!

So you’ve booked your boudoir shoot and you’re thinking … now what?! I totally understand that taking that first step, actually booking the session, was a big deal so getting ready now might seem like a giant hurdle! But don’t worry because I’ve got you covered. I’m sharing with you some of my tips to getting the most out of your session. And also a few of my favorite ways to prepare for your amazing boudoir experience!

Make sure you’re ready for hair and makeup

I do work with some amazing artists and we want to make sure to make your experience with us as amazing as possible! Here are a few tips from our hair and makeup team:

  • Please arrive with a clean, moisturized face free of makeup and clean, completely dry hair.

  • Make sure to remove any unwanted hair before your shoot - best done 1 to 5 days before your shoot. This includes brows (tweezed, waxed, threaded, just stick to your normal routine) and any other unwanted facial hair.

  • Moisturize - ideally twice every day, but definitely the night before and the morning of your session. Keep your skin looking radiant and glowing!

  • Do NOT come with straight-ironed hair unless you want a straight hairstyle; If you want soft waves or curls, the previously straightened hair will make it more difficult to achieve.

Be prepared for a workout!

Think of boudoir posing like a yoga class. Only we’ll have you working out muscles you likely haven’t worked out in a bit. Be mentally prepared for a bit of a workout! Don’t worry though, because even though some of these poses will be hard to hold, you’ll look freaking amazing!

  • Do some light stretching the morning of your shoot and if possible even a few times a week before that.

  • Drink LOTS of water in the days leading up to your shoot

Follow these tips and your body will thank you!

Bring outfits that reflect your personality and fit well

When it comes to boudoir photography, wardrobe is everything. What you wear allows you to show your own personal style and accentuate your favorite parts of your body, but choosing your outfits can be a little overwhelming. When you book in we’ll send you an in depth lingerie guide that will help you to plan the perfect wardrobe. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Be sure to buy items that you LOVE and would actually wear. Wearing something that makes you feel like a million bucks will show in your photos.

  • Buy properly fitted clothing. Whether that’s lingerie or any other outfit, making sure that it fits is so important. An ill-fitting wardrobe can be catastrophic during your shoot.

  • When in doubt, bring more options. We can help you narrow down your choices when you arrive at the studio. More choices is always better!

Wear loose fitting clothing before your shoot

We recommend ditching the jeans and bra while you’re traveling to your shoot. Tight fitting clothing can leave marks on your skin and can be tricky to edit out. When you arrive at the studio we’ll have you change into a soft robe for the hair and makeup portion of your experience!

And while we’re on the subject of outfits, it would also be a good idea to bring a nice outfit for after your shoot. Most of our clients are still giddy from the experience and take advantage of being glammed up to go out for a nice dinner or girl’s night out.

Please communicate any concern areas or preferences

Last but certainly not least, please communicate with me! If there’s a certain part of your body that you would like me to highlight or hide, please let me know! We’ll have a chat before I even pick up my camera to discuss all of your concern areas and learn more about what makes you excited for your session! The more you can share with me, the better this experience will be! If you tell me that you (or your partner) love your legs, then I’ll be sure to get some amazing shots showcasing your legs!

xo, Veronica
